Project Description

This is a school-based project where we work with learners to plant fruit trees and indigenous trees within their school compounds. We believe that involving children in tree growing at a young age helps them understand the role they can play in protecting the environment.

In 2023, we launched the A Tree A Child Schools Initiative in Kunduchi Primary School, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, with a key aim of encouraging every child in schools that we work with to plant and take care of at least one tree while in school. Through this, they learn responsibility, patience, and the importance of nature in our lives. We establish relationships with schools, talk to students about the importance of trees and Climate Education in general, and then guide them to plant one. It’s not just about planting, we also teach them how to care for it and watch it grow as they grow. We want every learner to leave school knowing they’ve made a real contribution to restoring our environment.

We also use peer-to-peer learning by using fellow learners from our Kids program and even those in their institutions as a way of mentoring young climate educators and for better understanding. In this program, we highly focus on Fruit trees that not only give environmental benefits but also nutritional benefits, and Indigenous trees.
